I love the way half square triangle quilts look but man are they tedious to make! I think the part that really gets to me is cutting off the edges of the finished squares…. Whenever I make one of these (this being my third- it took me awhile to recover from the first two) I do it very slowly. I’ll work on it a little bit, work on something else for a week, come back to it for a day, work on something else for a week, etc. But now I just want to get this quilt top done!
I used two different navy blue fabrics (intentionally) and two different white fabrics (unintentionally) along with a fat quarter bundle of Katie Jump Rope in the orange colorway that I picked up at JoAnn Fabrics months ago. I love orange so I couldn’t pass it up 🙂
For the record this is not the final layout for the rows I just did it this way to take the photo. I still have eight rows to make then I will stagger the orange geese for a more “random” layout.
The quilt is for my half brother who is a huge Denver Bronco’s fan. I probably could have found official team fabric but that’s not really my style. I’m not into sports and I’m really not into logo fabric so I decided to use their colors to make something my brother will love even if his love of the Broncos fades. More importantly I think the perfect handmade gift is one that combines the style and aesthetic of the giver and reciever so that when someone looks at a gift that you made they see you in it as well as themselves. After all isn’t the point of making something by hand to give a highly personal expression of your love for that person?
