Every year my stepmom asks us for a list of stocking stuffer ideas and every year I’m at a total loss. What she wants is a list of cute, cheap, and useful gifts that we would appreciate. I usually end up asking for candy for lack of better inspiration. But as I cruised the local quilting shop with my sister yesterday inspiration struck.
1. Pins- can you ever really have enough?
2. Pincushions- there are endless choices that combine functionality with art
3. Rotary Cutter Blades- This won’t make me swoon with delight but I’ll adore the giver when I’m in the middle of a project and need a new blade.
4. Sewing Machine Needles- Same as above but you could dress them up a bit by giving them in a custom needlebook.
5. Quality Shears or have theirs professionally sharpened.
6. Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, Honeybuns (no I’m not talking about food) or a gift card for his/her favorite fabric shop.
7. Quilt pattern or template piece. I’ve been dying to try a hex quilt and keep picking up and putting down the template pieces at the fabric store. I don’t need it but I’d love to have it.
8. Quilting Gloves. I’m personally terrified of stippling or anything other than straight line quilting because I’m afraid I won’t be able to move the fabric evenly. Everyone seems to agree that quilting gloves really aid in the smooth movement of the quilt through the machine.
9. Electric Quilt 6. Not exactly cheap but it’s supposed to be incredibly powerful and cool
10. Sewing feet. My favorite is my 1/4 in guide foot. But also handy would be a clear foot or a darning foot.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Please share!
Great list! I tweeted it! π I like the image you chose, too – amazing!
I have a few ideas , that I have not so subtley hinted to my husband. A quilters calculator, a bobbin sidewinder, a mini rotary cutter, rulers, rulers rulers π Other things freezer paper, basting pins or spray, fat quarters, half yards, a mini iron.
Ohhhh, what clever stocking-stuffer ideas! I love them and will try to keep them in mind for future reference. π
I flat our asked my husband for a donut bobbin holder and bobbins. Bobbins, bobbins and more bobbins. You’ve got a great list, there.
There’s always thread! Especially basic white. Hmmm… Yo-yo makers? Seam ripper? Quilting magazine?
Such a good idea! I don’t know why I never think to ask for these sorts of things, the under $20 quilting tools that I always pick up, put down, pick up. sigh. then put back down when I’m in the store. They’d make such good gifts!
prewound bobbins in various colors. especially for those who do machine embroidery the prewounds are great!
I’ve asked outright for thread. 2-4 Guetermann spools each of a selection of neutrals. I always have a variety of small quilt projects going on and I would love to get a break from continually buying thread!
A renewal of my SAQA membership
Gift certificate to reprodepot.com or other fave online fabric store.
I have a looong Wish List on Amazon of some fabulous books, esp. on modern and asian quilting!

I’m dying to know what pattern you used for the tree skirt. I lost mine in my divorce and don’t have a new pattern for it. Any info you have would be appreciated, thanks!
Sorry I didn’t make that tree skirt I just used a photo from flickr. If you click on the link it takes you to the person who created it but I think she just made it up the fly. I’d love for her to create one though!
Great list!
Just a quick tip, instead of quilter’s gloves, which can be expensive, I use regular dishwashing gloves. I just picked up ones that had “nubby” grips on the finger area for less than $3. They have lasted me for about 4 years and are just starting to fall apart.
I LOVE the tree skirt!
I don’t have any ideas but I absolutely adore that tree skirt! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Happy Holidays!
